Psychological evaluations are conducted for immigration purposes to assist families along their journey to citizenship. I have more than 20 years of experience working in different capacities with the North Texas community and I have a personal and professional understanding of the psychology of the immigrant. My doctorate degree in clinical psychology provided a strong foundation in general psychological assessments while my experience as a bilingual private practitioner allowed for practical experience in the field of immigration evaluations.
These types of evaluations are very specific and address particular points. It is important the mental health professional is familiar with the evidence required by the court. It is also very important the practitioner has experience of the diversity within the Latino population.
The psychological evaluation addresses three points:
1) Explain the hardship all the relevant family members would face if the waiver were not granted.
2) Would deportation of the immigrant pose an extreme and unusual hardship to the relative in question?
3) Would it be an extreme and unusual hardship for the lawful-resident relative to accompany the immigrant back to his or her home country in case they are deported?
A legal and favorable outcome in your immigration status is highly desired and the professional opinion rendered in a psychological evaluation greatly strengthens the case. Therefore, it is of utmost necessity the information provided for the evaluation is based on an honest recollection of events.
